Dedicated Hosting Definition

When we talk about web hosting servers, there are three basic sorts - shared hosting web servers, VPS (private virtual web hosting servers) and dedicated hosting servers. Shared hosting web servers host plenty of clients and thus the resources per web hosting account are limited, virtual private server plans offer more configuration autonomy, but also affect other virtual servers on the hardware node if used rashly, and dedicated servers give you the autonomy to perform everything you wish without intervening with anyone else.

Why would you require a dedicated hosting server?

Dedicated servers are generally much more high-priced than shared hosting servers or virtual servers. Why would anyone, then, use them? The explanation is pretty simple. If your firm has a big web portal, or simply has very specific server configuration requirements, the most reasonable option would be a dedicated server. For somebody who is prepared to invest in security and dependability, the bigger price is not an issue. You are given full root-level access and can utilize 100% of the hosting server's resources without anyone else sharing these system resources and intervening with your web sites.

Hardware architectures

The majority of web hosting providers, incl. us at , provide different hardware configurations you can choose from as per your demands. The hardware architectures include different varieties of processors, a different amount of cores, different RAM memory and server disk drive sizes and different web traffic usage quotas. You can select a Control Panel, which is convenient software if you would like to use the server for website hosting purposes solely and prefer not to resort to an SSH console for all the modifications you will be making. We offer three sorts of hosting CP software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The Control Panel of your choice

If you are a self-reliant Linux user (our dedicated web hosting servers are powered by Linux or other Unix-based Operating Systems), you could manage your dedicated server through a Secure Shell client only. That, though, could be awkward, particularly if you choose to give full server root access to someone else who has less technical knowledge than yourself. That is why having Control Panel software pre-activated is an excellent idea. The Hepsia hosting CP graphical user interface that we offer does not offer full root privileges and is mainly suitable for somebody who runs multiple sites that consume plenty of resources, but wishes to manage the web sites, databases and mailbox aliases through a user-friendly Control Panel. The DirectAdmin and cPanel web hosting CPs, on the other hand, grant complete root-level access and offer 3 levels of access - root, reseller and user. If you plan to resell hosting accounts rather than utilizing the web server just for yourself, you should pick one of these two.

Web server monitoring and backup procedures

Last but not least, there is the matter of monitoring the dedicated hosting server and of backing it up. In case of a problem with your web server, like an unresponsive Apache or a network downtime, it is good to have some sort of monitoring system activated. Here at the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you order a Managed Services upgrade, they monitor the individual services on the dedicated hosting server too. Backups are also a bonus feature - the hosting company offers you data backups on our own backup web servers. You could choose a kind of RAID that would permit you to save the same data on 2 server hard disk drives as a precaution in the event of a server hard disk failure, or in case someone whom you have given complete server root access deletes something by mistake.
